Strong Opinions by @marksbirch: What #Startups Are Like !!! - Is like That !!!

marksbirch:

Here is a collection of uplifting and heartwarming words of encouragement from the most sage voices in the tech startup world as you begin your own entrepreneurial journey.

  • Throwing yourself off a cliff and assembling an airplane on the way down. - Reif Hoffman
  • Being an entrepreneur is like eating glass and staring into the abyss of death. - Elon Musk
  • Running a start-up is like eating glass. You just start to like the taste of your own blood. - Sean Parker
  • Startups are hell. - Penelope Trunk
  • It’s like we’re married, but we’re not fucking. - Y Combinator founder via Paul Graham
  • I kept busy by thinking about how running that marathon was much like doing a startup. - Dan Martell
  • People say doing a startup is like a marathon. It’s actually a roadtrip at night with no headlights. You think you’re going to Toledo but you’re actually going to Miami and you might not have enough gas so you might need to buy gas from someone who might take you out if you aren’t driving well. - Ben Silbermann via Jason Shen
  • This is what running a startup is like…every day (cue video). - Jason Calacanis
  • Running a startup is like being punched in the face repeatedly. - Paul Graham
  • In my tiredness, my scars, and my strength I have noticed that launching and running a start-up is a lot like war. - Ryan Wood
  • Running a startup is like having all the bad guys from Die Hard attack you, but you’re way more scrawny than Bruce Willis. - Aaron Levie

Lesson learned: you want to get out of the box thinking, You need to literally get out of the box.

“I’ve learned that if you want to get out of the box thinking, you need to literally get out of the box.” Don´t forget that “Walking is good for your Brain”

Thanks to everyone for “the crazy” - “emotional”  &  ”Lesson Learning” 2012. We learned to “Run Lean” ; also to “hire slow  & fire fast. We learn to “Get Shit Done” & “Stay Self Found as Long as Possible” , We Learn to Win & We Learn to Loose and … We meet lifetime friends. We learn to be better “Entrepreneurs with Breakdowns and Breakthroughs”. We learn to be constantly out of the comfort zone. We learn that build technology is hard & we fucked up many times , but we learn how to build better ones with less resources. We learn more than 32 ways to say “No” , and more than 6 ways to said “Yes”. We also learn that a No , is the beginning of a bad ass sales process. We learn that 5 is a complicated number and 1 is a impossible one. We learn to be sad , happy , worried and so many emotional moods. We learn to push hard and the difference between bootstrapping , extreme bootstrapping and “eat your own dog food”. We also learn that is good to be “buenaonda” aka karma. We learn to be “FOCUS” and meet great people looking to make meaning…Wow !!! We can´t wait for 2013 …Thanks !!!

Peter’s Laws for a Passionate Mind & Startup

The Creed of the Persistent and Passionate Mind

1. If anything can go wrong, Fix It!!… to hell with Murphy!
2. When given a choice… take both!!
3. Multiple projects lead to multiple successes.
4. Start at the top, then work your way up.
5. Do it by the book… but be the author!
6. When forced to compromise, ask for more.
7. If you can’t win, change the rules.
8. If you can’t change the rules, then ignore them.
9. Perfection is not optional.
10. When faced without a challenge, make one.
11. “No” simply means begin again at one level higher.
12. Don’t walk when you can run.
13. When in doubt: THINK!
14. Patience is a virtue, but persistence to the point of success is a blessing.
15. The squeaky wheel gets replaced.
16. The faster you move, the slower time passes, the longer you live.
17. The best way to predict the future is to create it yourself!
18. The ratio of something to nothing is infinite.
19. You get what you incentivize.
20. If you think it is impossible, then it is… for you.
21. An expert is someone who can tell you exactly how it can’t be done.
22. The day before something is a breakthrough, it’s a crazy idea.
23. If it were easy it would have been done already.
24. Without a target you’ll miss it every time.
25. Fail early, fail often, fail forward!
26. If you can’t measure it, you can’t improve it.
27. The world’s most precious resource is the persistent and passionate human mind.
28. Bureaucracy is an obstacle to be conquered with persistence, confidence and a bulldozer when necessary.
